Accounting Specialist

SUMMARY

Blackrock Strategy is a veteran owned small business in Huntsville Alabama seeking an Accounting Specialist to support all aspects of accounting with outside advisors through our CPA. This position performs the following tasks in the fast-paced environment of a small business supporting clients in the defense contracting and commercial client sectors.

AREA OF EXPERTISE

  • Reviews and posts Accounts Payable.

  • Prepares, posts, verifies, and records customer payments and transactions related to Accounts Receivable.

  • Creates invoices according to company practices; submits invoices to customers.

  • Drafts correspondence for standard past-due accounts and collections, identifies delinquent accounts by reviewing files, and contacts delinquent accountholders to request payment.

  • Sets up new vendors, users, projects, and contracts in Unanet.

  • Completes costing, pricing, and funding projections for statements of work and proposals.

  • Administers and processes procurement.

  • Tracks funding for government and commercial contracts.

  • Submits sales and invoices through government approved systems such as GSA and IPP.

  • Interfaces with and manages bank activity.

  • Completes bank and credit card reconciliation.

  • Tracks cash flow and credit card account.

  • Manages authorized credit card users and their balances.

  • Supports Month End Close and Year End Close.

  • Supports general accounting department systems, policies, practices, and procedures.

  • Supports financial forecasts, and annual budgets.

  • Supports CPA with annual corporate taxes.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required.

 

DESIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Experience with Unanet.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Experience with government contracting.

  • Experience managing office staff.

  • Experience with ADP.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.

  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least five years of general accounting experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read in English to analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, government regulations, and procedure manuals. Ability to write in English for routine reports and correspondence.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems by defining the problem, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions. Ability to apply common sense.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must have a valid driver’s license issued by state of residence.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is a 3,000 square foot business facility that was constructed in 2021 and is located near Lowe Mill. This position requires most work to be performed in the office.
